Deep Sea Diving: The Importance Of Trimix

One of the most important aspects of scuba diving that a diver has to learn is how to set up the breathing tank. Divers do not use oxygen in their tanks, they use (or, increasingly, used to use) compressed air. However air is approximately 70 percent nitrogen and 30 percent oxygen and the nitrogen can result in nitrogen sickness under pressure, so more and more divers are turning to Nitrox.

Nitrox is not air, but it is still composed solely of nitrogen and oxygen, although not in the same ratio, which you can vary. The difficulty with raising the amount of oxygen in the mix is that there is a greater likelihood of suffering from oxygen toxicity the deeper you go. Therefore, the trade off is that the more oxygen you use, the shallower you may swim.

It sounds like a rough choice, you can suffer from either nitrogen or oxygen toxicity, take your choice. However, there is a third option and it is known as Trimix. Trimix is the ‘air’ that deep sea divers use. It is a mixture of three gases, as its name suggests: nitrogen oxygen and helium.

Helium is used as a form of filler. It does not do us any injury and it does not do us any good either, but it permits divers to take a lung full and it reduces the volume of nitrogen and the volume of oxygen thus reducing the chance of sickness.

The only problem with helium is that it conducts heat five times more than oxygen and nitrogen. This leads some deep sea divers to suffer from a condition known as hyperbaric arthralgia. Hyperbaric arthralgia is a kind of joint pain that a number of divers experience as they go deeper than 100 feet in salt water.

Deep sea divers have to learn about the different Trimixes as part of their course, because one day they will be accountable for choosing the mix they use. The option is not just compressed air, nitrox and Trimix, because there are different ratios of the gases in Trimix to take into the equation as well.

For instance, a 10/70 Trimix will be made up of 10 percent oxygen, 70 percent helium (and 20 percent nitrogen). This form of mix is suitable for diving to a depth of 330 feet in salt water or 100 msw (metres in salt water). Fresh water is a little lighter than salt water. This does not count at lower depths, but it does after a hundred feet.

Breathing and gases are merely one aspect of diving that you will have to master if you would like to go diving. A different aspect of diving that is associated with diving is the rate of ascent. Divers used to get taught not to come up faster than their smallest bubbles, which is about 60 feet per minute. However, many instructors now think that this is still too fast and recommend 30 feet per minute with a three minute wait at 15 feet.

How Engagement Rings Became A Custom

Engagement rings are a traditional gift bestowed upon a woman when an offer of marriage is proposed. It can be presented to the intended bride during the proposal ceremony, or after the proposal has been offered and accepted. In some cultures, both the man and the woman wear a ring, whereas in North America and parts of Europe, it is typically only the woman who receives and wears the gift.

The bands are commonly worn on the third finger of the left hand. This custom was started by the Egyptian belief that the vein of love, called vena amoris, was linked from this finger directly to a person’s heart. The connection to the heart is associated with romantic gestures, prompting the tradition. However, it is the Romans who first began offering truth rings as a sign of betrothal.

Not all countries follow the Egyptian practice. The German custom is to wear the endowment ring on the left ring finger until the marriage ceremony takes place. At that time, the band is switched to the right hand ring finger. Ukrainians also prefer the right hand, and do not wear engagement jewelry on the left hand.

During the middle ages, a man would offer a woman a Gimmel ring, also known as a bond ring, when proposing marriage. It was during this time that the bands became more decorative. Individuals who could afford to do so added fashionable coloured gems such as sapphires or possibly rubies.

In the earlier stages of a relationship, the man may offer the woman a promise ring as a prelude to an engagement. This signifies the enduring commitment to the relationship, and is a modern version of a faith ring. The faith band was forged of metal with two hands intertwined. It was a common betrothal band for those individuals without enough financial means to add gemstones to the engagement band.

In the late 1800’s, offering a ring to signify upcoming nuptials became an expected practice. The circle is a symbol of fidelity and represents eternity, since it has no beginning and no end. In 1870, De Beers Consolidated Mines gained control of the diamond market when an abundant supply of the stones was uncovered in the Kimberly diamond region of South Africa. Using the unbreakable gem to decorate the betrothal band as a sign of eternal love was a marketing strategy to promote the retail sale of the stones.

It was not until De Beers launched an aggressive marketing campaign for its retail outlets in the 1930’s, that adding a diamond to the proposal band became customary. The company instilled the belief that a proper betrothal band must cost the equivalent of three months wages, and should be accentuated with the precious gemstone. This guideline is still in use today, although many rings are embellished with sapphires, emeralds or other jewels as well as diamonds.

With or without diamonds, engagement rings are a ongoing symbol of the desire to marry. The custom of the gift is equated to commitment and long term love. It is a romantic gesture to celebrate the upcoming matrimony of couples in love, and publicly showcase the intention to wed.

Reasons For Buying An Auto Navigation System

You have surely seen auto navigation systems in your friends’ vehicles and you could be on the point of getting one yourself. It is definitely true that the auto navigation systems are impressive and the price of a set-up has fallen quite radically over the last few years. There are indeed many benefits to be derived from using an auto navigation system, which is also known as sat nav.

In this piece, we will take a look at some of the most important benefits of using a sat nav system.

Safety is paramount in whatever activity you undertake and safety has to be taken into account when driving as well. It is difficult to know whether the world used to be a safer place or not, but it is a fact that these days more people are suspicious of getting involved with strangers than they were previously.

Lone drivers do not want to accost a stranger and admit that they are lost or even stranded. Maybe the stranger will send you into an ambush, set up hurriedly over a mobile phone as you drive off happily suspecting nothing. People have become very suspicious of strangers.

It goes without saying that lone female drivers are the most distrustful of asking strangers for directions, but families with children are often very wary as well.

Using an auto navigation system solves this problem, because you will never get lost again, presuming that the sat nav console is wired to your car battery or you have spare batteries for a hand-held device in the glove compartment.

Confidence in getting to your destination on time, if you have left early enough, is another major benefit. Traffic jams, road works, accidents and natural disasters will no longer be surprises to you and your sat nave system will be able to propose alternative routes in order to avoid the obstacle. This is a very big advantage.

You will no longer have to leave really early to make sure you miss the traffic or to make sure you get somewhere on time. Sat nav will give your ETA. This can save you a whole lot of stress, especially if you have to be in different places for work or the kids all the way through the day.

Not to have to cope with with maps is a boon too. No more folding and refolding maps and trying to remember portions of the route and then stopping to check and remember the next section of the route. Maps are always out of date too. New sections of motorway are always being added and minor roads are sometimes closed for a new housing project. Paper maps just cannot keep up.

The last but not necessarily the least major advantage is the freedom an auto navigation system gives to you in your spare time. It opens up the countryside If you were always a little uneasy about going on a Sunday drive because you did not know the way or did not have a co-pilot to read the map, now you can just go with your auto navigation system.

Treasure Searching – Initiating A Metal Detector Passion

Before the blockbuster hit “Pirates of the Caribbean” was released, there’s no question that many us, at some point, dreamed of what it would be like to be a pirate and hunt for treasure. When we were introduced to Peter Pan, we were also introduced to Hook’s pirates who were constantly on the quest to search for buried treasure. There is certainly just something about searching as well as the pleasure of actually acquiring something of value that makes hunting so enjoyable.

If you are one of those people who really has this longing to discover hidden treasure, then you should attempt starting a metal detector hobby. Obviously, the first thing to accomplish is buy a high quality metal detector. There are a myriad of various models varying slightly in their functions and settings but you simply need one which is both durable and dependable. Hobbyists usually match the kind of metal detector they are buying with the type of environment they’ll go about. Popular places for treasure hunting include beaches along with other areas close to an ocean or any body of water. Ensure that your hunt site permits treasure hunters like you to look around their place.

The time when you decide to hunt would largely determine the prosperity of your endeavor. Research about your chosen hunt site and then try to discover the probability of finding hidden treasure plus the perfect season for hunting. Read up on the history of the said area and be informed about the hot spots. Common treasures include coins, silver coins, jewelry, trinkets, and stuff like that. If you are lucky, you never know what other great treasures you’ll find.

While you get ready for that hunt, you may even desire to bring other tools to help you through the process. Whenever you can, rid your hands of other things apart from the metal detector itself. Utilize a hand-free bag to contain all the other tools like sand scooper’s, small knives, elongated metal prodder, etc. Based on the size and shape of your treasure, you’d need different tools to seek out each one. It could be wise to wear some protective leather gloves when digging to avoid getting scratched or scraped by sharp edges or broken glass.

Metal detecting can be a great hobby or a fun-filled activity for the whole family as well. It can be quite thrilling because you’re never going to know what you’re going to find once you embark on your quest. The sheer joy of finding treasure is attributable to the prior laborious task of actual hunting.
