Home Schooling Learning History

Do you think that spending time in traditional classrooms is a waste of time? For many people, that is probably true. For instance, an exam is coming up and the pupils are asked to memorize a list of dates and names. However, after taking the exam, they will probably forget 90% of those dates and names. That’s what most students do when they have exams. If you are one of these people, you will find traditional history lessons boring, so home schooling, which concentrates more on the history of the world, will surely interest you more.

Just simple memorization is not enough to realize the significance of historical, famous people and fateful events. Through home schooling in history, you can study the different cultures of the past in a different, but interesting way – that is your own way! Through the study of history, you will also understand the current situation of the world.

But, if you consider that home schooling is the most effective option for your child’s education, you must also be prepared to take on certain responsibilities. Since there will be no teacher physically present, you will have to supervise your child’s educational development by yourself.

Let’s just suppose that your kid is interested in a particular sport. Through combining history and home schooling, you could start by simply putting a map on the wall of your child’s schoolroom and mark the location of his favourite sports team. Make sure that you track all the team’s activities and schedules. Then, you could return to history lessons by reading biographies of the various athletes, who had been popular in the particular sport that your child enjoys. Aside from that, you could also study the history of that specific sport and discover where it started, its inventor, and the other things happening in that particular time in history.

For instance, if your child follows baseball, you could teach your child about the history baseball, government hearings on the use of drugs and other favourite sports during that period in time. But remember that you can apply this concept to any interest like dancing, cars or any invention. You can also have conversations with your child about current affairs or read interesting historical documents and other books. Aside from that, you can also watch documentaries together with the rest of the family. There are various resources that you can use in home schooling, like TV, maps, newspapers, books, a globe, an atlas, and encyclopedias. Because of the exciting adventures that you and your child will read about and see on film, your child will find it easier to remember the names and dates of the history lessons. After all, education is best when it is done in an interesting way.

These ways are recommended if the child is still young, but when your child is older, you must select a home schooling program that is suited to his/her particular age group. The programs are pitched at the elementary, high school, and even college levels. You simply have to search online for these different programs. One good thing about these programs is that you can adapt them to fit the requirements of your child. However, you have to ensure that all the modules are learned by your child.

Once you and your child decide to try home schooling, you must be prepared for some changes to take place in your life. The learning environment will now be your home not a school and through the various resources that you can use including the computer and Internet.

Facts About Metaphysical Jewelry

Nearly all faiths have items that are considered spiritual jewelry. If you are New Age, Christian or Buddhist you will find meaningful symbols of your faith that are designed for both men and women. This jewelry has roots that are very old. It is often found in the earliest traces of civilization.

Much of the early artwork that has survived and is studied today has a spiritual connotation. Some of the art was an idol that was worshiped and other pieces were mere symbols of the owner’s faith. In addition to these larger pieces of art, craftsmen made smaller pieces that were worn as adornment symbolizing the wearer’s belief.

Some of the jewelry was worn in order to ward off the evil spirits. Other pieces served the wearer as a reminder of his god or his religious duty. Pieces had significance to the wearer or they would not have been made.

There are examples seen in Catholicism today. Rosaries, crosses and crucifixes as well as metals depicting the patron saints are often worn. Rosaries are very important to Catholics as they are used in daily prayers. Many of the metals of the saints are also worn by non Catholics.

While rosaries and crucifixes are less popular with Protestants, the cross is a popular piece of jewelry. In addition, the symbol of the fish found in the catacombs has been important for thousands of years.

New Age jewelry often has very ancient roots. Amulets which have been copied from pieces that were created thousands of years ago are often worn. These pieces often are very expensive, but pieces using inexpensive metals and fake stones are also popular.

Native Americans also wear jewelry that can called metaphysical jewelry. Some pieces may have to do with a right of passage while other pieces are only used for specific ceremonies. The United States does have special laws regarding jewelry sold as authentic Native American. These laws also apply to spiritual pieces.

The cost of such religious jewelry may vary greatly, regardless of the faith of the person. Jewelry made from inexpensive alloys and simulated stones or simply enameled may be very inexpensive. If the settings are made of gold and precious stones are used in the jewelry, then the purchaser can expect to pay more for the piece. Custom made pieces will be found to be even more expensive.

If you are planning to purchase spiritual jewelry, you should begin by setting a budget. Know what you can and want to spend before you begin shopping. As with any other jewelry, you will want to look for quality workmanship. Make sure that settings are secure and that clasps and fasteners are secure. Like other good jewelry, you do not want a piece to be ruined by a lost stone or lost because of a faulty clasp. If you are new to your spirituality and unsure about what piece of jewelry to purchase, speak with someone who is more experienced in the practice of your religion. They may be able to direct you to a piece that will grow in meaning to you over time.
