Stress Headaches And How To Treat Them

We all have headaches from time to time, but do you know why you have those headaches? If you just get a headache from time to time, once every couple of of weeks or so, it is not much of a problem, but if you fear your next headache, then you almost certainly do have a problem.

Tension headaches are the most prevalent and tension can be related to stress, but there are also purely stress-related headaches. This type of headache can also be driven off by a tablet or two from the medicine cabinet, but it is better to get rid of the cause for the headache. Attack the reason not the symptom. There are, obviously pharmaceutical medicines to treat headaches and there are natural, home remedies as well but there are also non-medicinal methods of treating a stress headache. These other methods include: cognitive therapy, behavioural therapy and physical therapy.

These ways can be studied from books, night school groups, the local library, the Internet or by arrangement with your clinic or physician. It is well-worth learning how to use these techniques because taking drugs or medications can lead to headaches anyway.

Cognitive Therapy: seeks to ‘redirect’ stress headaches. In this course of action, the patient is taught to recognize what begins the stress symptoms and what the onset of a stress headache feels like. Then they are taught how to modify their response to these conditions.

Behavioural Therapy: is a way of changing your life style to prevent the incidence of a stress headache. For example, numerous people reach for comfort foodstuffs or alcohol once they become stressed, but it may be better for you to do something else, |when you feel a stress headache coming on.

Physical Therapy: tries using bio-feedback responses, so that once a stress headache begins, the sufferer strives using relaxation techniques (maybe yoga) in order to reduce their stress and possibly prevent the stress headache from occurring. Meditation, deep breathing and prayer are some of the other techniques that can be tried.

Home Remedies For Getting Rid Of Warts

Millions of people all over the world develop warts. The bottom line is that they are more of an embarrassment – a social issue – than a medical problem. Some people just put up with them and others cannot abide them and have to have them removed instantly, if not sooner.

The fact is that warts are non-malignant growths. Non-malignant cancers, if you like, but the operative description is ‘non-malignant’ which is the same as ‘harmless’.

If you want to remove any warts that you have, it is not a problem. Maybe, it is easier to see warts as flowers or rather weeds growing on your skin. You can kill them. There are several ways of doing this ‘weed killing’.

You can go to a doctor or a dermatologist. This is a sure-fire way of getting rid them, but depending on where you live can get expensive. Or you can try doing it yourself first. After all, if you do not succeed, it will not have cost you much and you can then go to a doctor later.

One of the easiest methods that I have found is the use of Salicylic acid. It sounds awfully dangerous and painful, but I can assure you that it is not. Salicylic acid is an ingredient of numerous shop-bought home remedies for getting rid of warts. Simply check on the labels of wart removal products.

A few moments after applying salisylic acid, the top of the wart will turn white. After a couple of days of application, the wart will look like an open cauliflower and it will reveal itself as the weed that it is. (Not really, obviously). Soon thereafter, it will start to break away – literally to fall offbit by bit – and there will be no scar at all.

I had loads of warts as a child. Mostly on my fingers alongside my finger nails and although my mother wanted to take me to the general practitioner to have them ‘burned’ off by frost, I did not like the idea. Salicylic acid was suggested by a neighbour and there was no looking back.

However, as a foot note, I want to add one more home remedy. A few years after the trauma of having loads of warts on my hands as an infant schoolboy, I grew a wart on the tip of my nose. Needless to say, my classmates thought that hilarious and some of them tried to make my life a living hell.

An aunty of mine, Aunty Lil, came to the house one day to ‘get rid of this problem once and for all’. She took a chunk of beef steak out of her bag – it was around two ounces in weight – and she rubbed it on my nose, or on the wart on my nose anyway and then she went out into the garden.

My mother and I watched her through the widow. She carefully dug a shallow hole and laid the steak in it. Then she covered it over, tramped it down and returned inside.

‘When the meat has rotted,’ she said, ‘your wart will fall off’. Five or six days later, my wart fell off when I was washing and it has never reappeared – not in fifty years.

Fear In School

Do you have happy memories of your school years? Do you have happy memories of teachers and school friends? If you do then you were lucky, because some children hate each minute of being in school and not because they are no good at it either. Frequently it is the clever kids who are taunted for being swots and teachers’ pets. They are safe in the class, but the travelling to and from school and the school breaks can become nightmares.

However, it is not only bullying from other children that causes fear in school children. There are other reasons for fear in school as well. Occasionally, children think that a certain teacher does not like them and sometimes children are just frightened of failing or doing badly. Occasionally teachers are frightened of doing badly as well. It can all lead to an atmosphere of fear at school. However, the most subtle form of fear in school comes from teachers who are scared of missing the targets set by the state, because that will cost them their jobs. This fear is passed on to their pupils. The regime of fear is exacerbated by over-sized groups. Why?

Because teachers can hold the attention of only so many pupils – as we all can in normal discourse. Therefore, if the class is too big, the teacher will have to switch roles from being a teacher to a controller. When this occurs, education suffers for the sake of restoring order.

For all of these reasons and more, many parents are turning to home schooling. Some of the reasons why parents are deciding to educate their children themselves are: distrust of the state education system; fear of bullying or worse of their children; a desire to teach their children in a more conventional or religious manner.

There are learning packages that parent-teachers can buy to give them a course of action on what to teach. There is also a lot of help accessible on the Net. The problem facing any parents who wish to educate their own children is providing an all round education.

Chronic Tension Headaches – What Can I Do?

There are so many sorts of headache and headaches are so common, that there is a very good chance that everyone you know has had them or still gets them. The reasons why people get headaches are just as wide-ranging. It could be stress, over-medication, migraine, lack of calories or tension. One of the worst kinds is chronic tension headaches.

A normal tension headache feels as if a belt is being done up tightly around your forehead, but they do not have a tendency to last very long and they are infrequent. A chronic tension headache is the same, but it may come every day or even a couple of times a day. A headache is classified as a chronic tension headache if you get a tension headache more than fifteen times in a month for several consecutive months.

Therefore, if you suspect that you are suffering from this type of headache, start to write notes in a diary. When? Where? How bad? How long it lasted? And anything else that you think may be relevant, like what you have eaten or drunken that day and the day before. You may notice a connection to work or diet.

Some sufferers describe the pain as like having a very tight strap wrapped around their head, others say the sensation of constraint goes down as far as their shoulders. In general, sufferers of tension and chronic tension headaches agree, that the pain is worst in the forehead, then along the sides of the head and sometimes at the back as well.

They say that the normal level of pain is a dull ache which can be mild to moderate in intensity. It is more of a nagging, always-on pain than a sharp, distracting pain.

Chronic tension headaches appear to be early risers, that is, some people wake up with them and others say that they begin just after they get up in the morning. It is as if the contemplation of the day ahead is almost too much too bear. The pain can intensify at certain periods of the day, or it can simply slowly slip away practically unobserved.

Chronic tension headaches are nowhere near as universal as normal tension headaches, but they are twice as common in women as in men.

The main issue with these headaches, besides the pain itself, is that they become a routine event. You wait for it to happen, you are that sure that it will accompany you throughout the day as normal. The pain can just become one continuous drag on your life.

For this reason, sufferers of CTH are often vulnerable to depression and anxiety and it is difficult to know which came first, the CTH or the depression / anxiety and which is causing which. If you think this could be your problem, do not try to cure the headaches yourself, go to see a doctor about the depression or anxiety, have that sorted out and the chronic tension headaches may disappear too without any further medication.
